CDK Global Outage

A recent cyberattack on the cloud-based software company CDK Global has resulted in an outage of the software throughout the United States. Most of the outages were out of caution, leading dealerships to use handwritten forms to continue business operations. The attack and shutdown of systems occurred June 18th and June 19th, and the company was able to restore some systems the evening on the 19th, but there was another attack that day. Meaning the company can to stop the use of their system again. The outcomes of this attack are CDK having to stop all systems being used, and taking a few days for a thorough fix. The attackers are believed to be based in Europe, and are asking for millions of dollars as a ransom. CDK says to have a three-tiered cybersecurity strategy, but it has failed them. The company is planning to pay the ransom. Cyberattacks on car dealerships are increasing, because of the extensive information on customers.
