CDK Global Outage A recent cyberattack on the cloud-based software company CDK Global has resulted in an outage of the software throughout the United States. Most of the outages were out of caution, leading dealerships to use handwritten forms to continue business operations. The attack and shutdown of systems occurred June 18th and June 19th, and the company was able to restore some systems the evening on the 19th, but there was another attack that day. Meaning the company can to stop the use of their system again. The outcomes of this attack are CDK having to stop all systems being used, and taking a few days for a thorough fix. Concerns for 2024 Olympics This week I found an article about the 2024 Olympics and the possible cybersecurity threats against its data. The 2021 Olympics experienced around 450 million cyberattacks, and the company Cisco is predicting there to be eight times more than that amount for this years games. Cisco is the organization responsible for the network infrastructure and is preparing for this years games by collaborating with the French Cybersecurity Agency, Atos and Orange. Microsoft's Security Problem Microsoft's network security has been lacking in recent history, and the article I chose to share highlights how bad it has been. There have been multiple attacks and breaches within the past four years, and while Microsoft tries to fix the issue, they could not stop attacks from Russia not once, but twice in four years. Hackers from around the world have not just gotten normal civilian's information, but has also gotten federal communication information, like emails from a secretary of commerce. Free Cyber Security Program! This week I found a very exciting news article for people within the cybersecurity community. The article I am sharing this week is getting the word out about a free cybersecurity program. This will be available at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, and is aimed toward people who are veterans, active military, first responders, and other government roles. It will be an online course, and will help Florida with the lack of jobs within cybersecurity. I think this is a great way to get people interested in the topic. Free schooling always intrigues people and with the growing need for cybersecurity jobs this is a great idea.
